The Fenix HL17R is an ultralight magnetic headlamp that functions as both a headlamp and a flashlight. Made of high-strength plastic, it is durable and reliable for a variety of uses. For maximum convenience, it features a quick-release mount and a magnetic back clip and can be worn on the head, held in the hand, or attached to the chest or metal surfaces. Instructions for use
On/Off
- With the lamp locked, rotate the light ring clockwise to unlock and turn on the lamp.
- With the lamp on, rotate the light ring counterclockwise to the lock icon to turn off and lock the lamp.
- With the lamp unlocked, press and hold the ON/OFF switch, indicated by the power icon, for 0.5 seconds to turn the lamp on/off.
Change mode
- Rotate the light ring clockwise to select General mode → Scene Mode.
Output selection
- General Mode: With the lamp on, click the ON/OFF switch once to cycle between Eco→Low→Medium→High.
- Scene Mode: With the lamp on, click the ON/OFF switch once to cycle through Reading→Red Light→Red and Blue Flash→RGB→Aurora.
Intelligent memory circuit:
- The headlamp automatically stores the last output selected in General mode and Scene mode. When turned on again in either mode, the output previously used in the currently selected mode will be recalled.
Gesture detection function
- With the lamp on, press and hold the sensor switch; with the Wi-Fi icon, the lamp will flash white three times and the gesture detection indicator will flash blue to indicate that this feature is enabled. After enabling this feature, you can wave your hand to turn the lamp on and off. With the lamp on, press and hold the sensor switch again to disable this feature.
Note:
- Turning off or locking the lamp will disable the gesture detection function. If you want to use this feature, re-enable it after turning the lamp on.
- The detection range is about 10cm/3.94in in front of the lamp and may vary slightly depending on the material and color of the detected object, ambient light, the brightness of the selected output, and the speed of movement.
- The gesture detection function is infrared. If objects other than your hand pass in front of the lamp within the detection range, the lamp will turn on or off.
Lock/Unlock
- Lock: With the lamp on, rotate the light ring counterclockwise to lock the lamp.
- Unlock: Rotate the light ring clockwise to unlock the lamp and access the previously used output in the currently selected mode.
Attaching and detaching the headlight bracket
- Attachment: Rotate the headlight counterclockwise. Follow the direction opposite to the arrow on the bracket and snap the headlight into place by pushing it diagonally downwards.
- Removal: Rotate the headlight clockwise. Follow the direction indicated by the arrow on the bracket and remove the headlight from the bracket by pulling it diagonally upward.
Recharge
- Turn off the headlamp and connect the USB Type-C end of the charging cable to the headlamp's charging port. Once the headlamp is securely attached to the mount, rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise to fully expose the headlamp's USB Type-C charging port before charging.
- The battery level indicator will be red while charging and will turn green when fully charged.
- Once charging is complete, be sure to unplug the charging cable for normal use.
- Note: All outputs can be activated during charging, except the High output.
Battery level indication
With the lamp off, click either switch once to check the current battery level; the battery level indicator will display the battery level for 3 seconds. Each time the lamp is turned on, the battery level indicator will display the battery level for 3 seconds.
- Green light on: 100% - 85% saturated
- Flashing green light: 85% - 50% sufficient
- Red light on: poor 50% - 25%
- Flashing red light: critical 25% - 1%
Intelligent overheat protection
- The headlamp will build up a lot of heat if used at high power levels for extended periods. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 60°C/140°F or higher, it will automatically dim a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C/140°F, the headlamp will gradually restore the preset power level. If you want the headlamp to continue operating at high power levels, be sure to manually reselect those power levels as needed.
Low voltage warning
- When the voltage drops below the preset level, the headlamp is programmed to gradually reduce the brightness level, and the battery level indicator will flash red to remind you to recharge the battery promptly. To ensure normal use, the headlamp will not automatically turn off, and the battery level indicator will continue to flash red until the battery is depleted.
Use and maintenance
- Please recharge the battery in time to ensure normal use next time.
- Recharge the stored lamp every four months to maintain optimum battery performance.
- Disassembling the sealed head may damage the headlight and void the warranty.
- Lock the headlight to prevent accidental activation during storage or transport.

- DO NOT leave this headlamp within the reach of children!

- This headlamp will accumulate a significant amount of heat during operation, resulting in a high lamp body temperature. Exercise extreme caution to avoid burns!
- DO NOT place the lamp head near flammable objects, high temperatures can cause objects to overheat and make them flammable/combustible!
- Turn off and lock the headlamp to prevent accidental activation when the headlamp is placed in a closed and flammable environment, such as pockets and backpacks!
- DO NOT use the headlamp inappropriately, for example by holding it in your mouth, as this could cause serious personal injury or death if the headlamp or internal battery fails!
- The LED in this headlight is not replaceable; therefore, when the LED reaches the end of its life, the entire headlight must be replaced.
