Description

The innovative Boar Dog Protective Vest by C&C Hunting contains all the valuable features of other apparently similar devices that can be found on the market because it was born from the collaboration between hunting experts, veterinarians and a well-known Italian company leader in the design of high-tech fabrics, with the support of a fashion house for the designs. From this union was born a product that perfectly synthesizes: design, comfort and maximum protection.
FPJ 2.0 - Anti-fang protective vest
Protective vest for hunting dogs.

How do you measure your dog's size?

To determine the size of the dog, it will be necessary to measure the circumference of the chest, measured immediately behind the shoulders.
  • Size XXS : 50 - 55 cm
  • Size XS: 55 - 60 cm
  • Size S : 60 - 65 cm
  • Size M : 65 - 70 cm
  • Size L : 70 - 75 cm
  • Size XL: 75 - 80 cm

The FPJ vest seems short, but doesn't it affect the dog's safety?

After years of experience, the length of the vest has been standardized in order to best adapt to various breeds of dogs with the same chest circumference. The particular vertical cut design (not markedly oblique) absurdly manages to protect a greater portion of the belly, a notoriously more dangerous area. Finally, length and design are conceived for maximum mobility during the follow-up and gallop phases. However, today FPJ 2.0 is designed to accommodate an adjustable neck and rear extension.
The FPJ body is rather high cut, why this choice?
Everything our dogs wear is not natural to them. In order for wearing a protective device to become natural and not a hindrance, it is necessary to allow free movement to the legs and neck, avoiding friction. Any rubbing, in fact, could cause very painful abrasions for the dog (future rejection of the vest).
Is it better to have a bodice with a neck or without? What should you choose based on?
The choice of a model with or without a neck depends on the dog's ability to get used to something new and enveloping. It is known that the presence of the neck is one of the most frequent reasons for rejection. In the case of FPJ, a neck has been created with a profile that minimizes discomfort. The presence of the neck allows the protection of the main veins and arteries in an area considered vital. However, mortality due to neck injuries is less than 10% of the total. However, today FPJ 2.0 is designed to accommodate an adjustable neck and rear extension, so as to leave the customer free to choose.
What closure system does the FPJ bodysuit use?
C&C Hunting was the first company to produce a modular closure system with only Velcro. In particular, the system is made up of three elements:
  • Front flap
  • Rear flap
  • Back Velcro
Not having fixed points as in the case of the zip closure, this system allows the vest to be adapted to the morphology of the dog during the different seasons of the year. In fact, at the beginning of the season, dogs generally have a greater fat mass which then tends to gradually decrease during the hunting season. Therefore, by adapting in a millimetric way to the different physical states of the dog, this closure offers a perfect fit and maximum comfort.
Is there a risk that the Velcro could open and get caught in the undergrowth?
Absolutely not, if the size is chosen correctly and the closure is done correctly, it is not possible for the Velcro to open during the strike. It is important to underline that the type of Velcro offers very high quality standards. A hi-tech Velcro guaranteed up to 1,000 tears. Furthermore, Velcro is the key element of the innovative closure system adaptable to the anatomy of any dog breed (see previous point).
Why is there no model provided for males and females?
The FPJ vest is unisex. The ventral hollow, contrary to what it may seem, was not created to meet the anatomical needs of male subjects, but rather to accommodate the motor needs of both sexes. In fact, the hollow allows maximum mobility during the gallop phase, a gait that involves the crossing of the front and back legs with consequent closure of the dog.
What is the rejection rate?
Given the design and construction material precautions, the FPJ vest guarantees a very low percentage of rejection in adult subjects (4-5 years) who have not previously rejected other vests. A percentage that approaches zero in the case of young subjects within the first 3-4 outings.
Hi-tech fabrics
Entirely made of rubberized and aramidic twaron structured in various layers (from 2 to 6) depending on the anatomy of the dog and the sealing needs. The peculiar arrangement of the layers of fabric, studied in collaboration with veterinary centers, increases the protection in the most delicate points while significantly containing the weight of the finished product. All the materials used both inside and outside are certified, water-repellent, with high resistance to perforation, tears and abrasions.
Optimized design
The model has been designed in a single piece to have maximum resistance and no weak points resulting from seams under the belly. It leaves the dog free to breathe and allows easy movement of the neck during the following phases. It allows the bodice to always remain close to the body even during the race. The protected area involves the entire rib cage up to the groin area while maintaining maximum freedom of movement. The bevel obtained under the stomach makes the model unisex and dynamic.
Maximum Fit
From the experience of the designers and the suggestions of the customers it has been possible to perfect the product over the years to guarantee the perfect fit and maximum comfort for the dog. Each protective vest is equipped, in fact, with a Velcro adjustment of about 5 centimeters and an innovative front and rear closure system that allows it to adapt better to the structure of any breed of dog, regardless of its size.
High Visibility
The lining is made of orange cordura to increase the visibility of the vest and therefore facilitate the sighting of the auxiliary in the thick of the woods both at the end of the hunt and during the hunting phases, limiting the possibility of accidental shots.
High Tolerance
Continuous and meticulous experimentation, attentive to the dog's behavioral response, has allowed us to obtain a product characterized by a very high level of satisfaction even in adult dogs. It is estimated that the tolerance is equal to or greater than 90% from the first time the vest is worn.
Made in Italy
The C&C Hunting protective vest for wild boar hunting dogs is 100% Made in Italy: design, research & development, intellectual property and production.
Dry weight
In this section, the weight of the jacket is examined both in non-use conditions and simulating use in extreme situations of immersion in water. As regards the dry weight, the products were weighed at the origin with an electronic scale, determining the average weight for each size. The results may vary by approximately 5% in weight.
Weight of jacket per size at origin expressed in grams. Tolerance +/- 5%
Wet weight at 3 minutes
The test was carried out by placing the product in a container of water, immersing it at least 5 cm below the surface for three minutes, placing a weight on top of it, simulating an extreme situation such as the dog crossing a river or lake. After this time, the jacket was removed from the water and briefly shaken to simulate the dog's movement, then it was left to drain for another three minutes by gravity and finally the first weighing was recorded.
Jacket weight per size expressed in grams after 3 min. Tolerance +/- 10%
Average weight loss at 3, 10 and 15 minutes
The second weighing session was performed after another 10 minutes leaving the FPJ vest hanging without ever wringing it. The third and final weighing session was performed 15 minutes after removing the jacket from the water. New FPJ vests just out of production were used for the tests. All the materials used are completely water-repellent, therefore, the weight variation of the vest depends on the amount of water that manages to enter through the seams: this amount can vary during use and wear of the product.
Percentage of water retained by the jacket at 3, 10 and 15 minutes. Tolerance +/- 10%
The Hunter and the Dog
The dog for the hunter. A companion for hunting, for adventure, for life. The one who keeps us hanging while we follow his movements during the stalk. Then you bark at him while he stops and your heart in your throat while he risks his life with courage in front of a potentially deadly beast. The safety of hunters has evolved a lot over the years. Now, thanks to a growing sensitivity of hunters towards auxiliaries, the focus shifts to the dog.
The concept of protection
Protecting yourself does not mean becoming invincible. Like a seat belt in a car, the vest is designed to minimize the risk of trauma from potentially fatal attacks by game. A good hound should keep a safe distance and avoid physical contact. The vest comes into play when there is no escape route for the dog. Even when wearing a vest, the dog can suffer damage (even fatal) such as broken ribs, bruises, etc. with suffering and potential future physical limitations.
Dog's performance
The dog must remain agile and free in its movements. FPJ has been designed to optimize the relationship between protected surface and dog performance. The weight, the necklines on the shoulders and on the back of the neck, the waterproofness and other construction features have been designed specifically to not interfere with the dog's mobility. This design also minimizes the risk of rejection by the dog, as it does not cause feelings of constriction or weight.
