KNIFE - OPINEL - N°08 CARBON

The N°08 Carbon was born in Joseph Opinel's workshop in 1890. Since then it has become a classic throughout the world, thanks to its design and efficiency. The 8.5 cm Carbon steel blade offers an infallible cut and resistance. The beech handle makes it easier to grip and therefore the knife safer. The Virobloc safety system invented by Opinel allows the blade to be locked in the open or closed position. It is very versatile thanks to its size and indispensable for small DIY jobs, hunting, etc.

Opinel carbon steel is a non-alloy steel, with a high carbon content, which allows excellent hardness to be obtained from the heat treatment operation, ensuring a perfect cutting edge, a high resistance to wear and easy resharpening. However, since carbon steel has a low resistance to corrosion by humidity, it requires precautions for use: do not leave the knife in a humid environment, especially in the dishwasher, clean the blade with a greasy cloth after use and grease it often as the joint.

Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. Coming from French plantations, it is hard, resistant and easy to work. With a homogeneous appearance, its light colour varies from yellow to pink. It is recognisable by the presence of numerous dark lines. The handle is varnished to be effectively protected from dirt and humidity.
